Since we’ve already said how popular the LEGO Star Wars Calendar is (and why it’s one of our top toys for 2011) we thought we’d take a look at the other Lego Advent Calendar for this year, and that’s the LEGO City Advent Calendar 7553. (The calendar for 2011).

Like previous years it contains a box that has 24 small compartments that each house a different piece of Lego. Each day leading up to Christmas you open one of the compartments which you either have to put together or complete (such as a minifigure).

Each of the toys are simple to assemble (there are instructions on the back of the door when you open it) and most of the toys this year are Christmas themed.

There are a total of 232 pieces of Lego which of course you can use with any of your other Lego sets, especially other’s in the City collection.

Unlike other years, this year includes a bigger toy (a police station) which you build over four days as you collect the blocks.

Apart from the bigger Police Station, some of the smaller toys include Santa, Minifigures with gifts, a Christmas tree, snowmobile, fisherman and a car.

They all come together to make the scene included on the cover of the box.

Kids (and adults) get a kick out of opening the days leading up to Christmas to see which toy they will get that day and it’s something that fans of the Lego Advent Calendars enjoy year after year (most people who buy one become repeat buyers each Holiday Season).

The recommended retail price is around $35. And you can find it in most good toystores.
