Another year, another LEGO’s Advent Calendar and this year Star Wars fans will get a treat with their very own Star Wars Advent Calendar (kit number 7958).  It’s our top pick for best new Christmas toy for 2011.

This is the first year that LEGO has bought out a Star Wars themed Advent Calendar and there isn’t likely to be another for at least a few more years (if at all).  While they always do bring out a regular Advent calendar which lately has been in the CITY range, in the past two years they have also released a themed calendar as well.  In 2008 it was a Castle, 2009 Pirates and last year (2010) was Kingdoms.

So this is the first time they have used a movie franchise as one of their themed advent calendars (and I suspect won’t be the last either).

What’s Included

The set works like any Advent calendar does in that each day you open up a little window to find a surprise on all of the twenty four days leading up to Christmas day.

Included in the set are 8 LEGO minifigures, a Yoda figure in a Santa suit which is exclusive to this set, a mini Millennium Falcon, mini X-wing Starfighter and more cute treats.  I’ve included a full list of each item below.

The cardboard box itself is not that sturdy, so it’s likely that you’ll rip a window or two as you open them (unless you are super careful) but the fun isn’t really in opening the windows each day, it’s collecting and playing with the little figurines and miniature space craft that you get in the kit.

Age Groups

It’s best suited to ages six and up because of the small pieces although I suspect that adult Star Wars fans will be the ones buying this for themselves, not the kids – so that probably won’t be an issue.
